Carrying on from recent articles on the administrative shells of the Salford club [1, 2 and 3] the new company formation of Salford RLFC Limited is, possibly, its seventh significant rebirth.
This is in reference to an article in Athletic News after the formation of The Salford Football Club Company (1914) Limited, which contained the line:
The formation of the new limited liability company marks the beginning of the fourth epoch in the history of the club…
I don’t know why this was referred to as the ‘fourth epoch’, but let’s try to fill in those gaps:
Cavendish Congregational Chapel Sunday School Boys/Cavendish FC
Salford FC
The Salford Football Club Company Limited
The Salford Football Club Company (1914) Limited
Salford City Reds (2013) Limited
Salford RD Holdings Limited
Salford RLFC Ltd
So, this points to the club’s move from Chorlton-upon-Medlock to Salford and the subsequent name change, the incorporation of the club in 1901 prior to the building of The Willows, the liquidation of that company and a new company formation in 1914, the sale of the club from John Wilkinson to Marwan Koukash, the transfer of the club from Marwan Koukash to a ‘fan owned’ entity, and the recent collapse of that entity and the subsequent rebirth as a phoenix club.
That seems plausible to me.
I suppose an alternative would be where the first two ‘epochs’ were implied as:
Cavendish FC/Salford FC in rugby union
Salford FC in the Northern Union
